Einhorn Insurance provides Dog Liability Insurance for all breeds! We are often asked….
Dog liability insurance (also known as dog friendly insurance or canine liability insurance) covers bodily injury your dog(s) cause to other people or animals. You will also be covered if your dog(s) damage other people’s property (this does not include damage to the place you are renting). Dog liability insurance is not to be confused with health insurance for your dogs. If you need health insurance for your pets, please visit https://einhorninsurance.com/pet-health-insurance/.
At Einhorn Insurance, we encourage dog owners of all breeds to carry some liability insurance to cover the unintentional actions of their dog(s). Since 1/3 of all home insurance claims are dog related, many insurance companies have re-evaluate which dog breeds they are willing to cover and some insurance carriers completely exclude any type of animal liability coverage on your home or renters insurance.
Whether you own a property and have Homeowners Insurance or you rent and have Renters Insurance, you may be required to disclose your dog’s breed. Unfortunately, not all insurance companies are the same. Many insurance carriers will either deny you a policy based on your dog’s breed or they exclude dog bites and/or other dog injuries from your policy. This means that in the event your dog hurts someone or another animal, you’ll have to pay everything “out-of-pocket”.
So you may be saying to yourself, “my dog wouldn’t hurt a fly.” Not all dog claims are bite related. We had an incident where a man and his Golden Retriever were walking down the street and approached an older woman and her Cocker Spaniel. The two dogs started to play and the older woman lost her footing and fell which resulted in a hip surgery. Neither dog was acting aggressively, but this incident resulted in someone getting hurt.
Here are a few other examples which could result in a dog liability claim: Your dog barks and scares someone causing them to trip and fall. Your dog jumps on a child while playing, causing the child to fall backwards. Your dog plays with another dog and unintentionally hurt the other dog.
Einhorn Insurance has policies to cover all dog breeds including Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Akitas, Staffordshire Terriers, Chows, Grate Danes, Huskies…etc.
If Animal Control has deemed your dog as dangerous, vicious, potentially dangerous or potentially vicious, Einhorn Insurance can still help you and your canine companion.
Dog liability insurance or canine liability insurance covers you 24 hours a day for:
– Reasonable medical (such as surgeries and stitches) due to bodily injury.
– Veterinary bills if your dog hurts another dog or animal.
– Most policies cover your dog(s) while at your home and while away from home (depending on the type of policy you have).
– Damage your dog causes to other people’s property (not including damage your dog does to the property you are renting).
– Attorney fees if your case goes to court.
– Compensation to the injured party for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
– Loss of wages to the injured party.
The average cost of a dog claim is about $25,000. Without insurance, you may have to pay thousands of dollars for someone’s medical bills, lost wages and attorney fees. Fortunately, many dog bites do not result in serious injury, but it’s the plastic surgery, scars, post-traumatic stress and loss of wages that cause these claims to sky rocket.
Why take the chance when you can carry canine liability insurance?
Unless you have the right dog liability insurance, dog owners may lose their homes, assets and income in a dog claim. People (especially the parents of hurt children) that are victims of a dog injury want compensation for injuries. When a dog owner doesn’t have the right coverage, the injured party can go after that person’s assets or garnish wages.
