National Fire Safety Week October 9-15 
Fire season used to be during the summer months, but this is no longer the case. Fire season is now all year long.
Here are some recent stats about fires in 2010:
- Fire departments responded to over 1.3 Million fires. The cause of these fires ranged anywhere from brush fires to electrical fires.
- A fire department responded to a residential fire every 82 seconds.
- A fire department responded to a building fire every 65 seconds.
There are many ways we can prevent fires from happening. Cooking fires are a leading cause of home fires so it’s important to keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen at all times. With the holidays just around the corner, remember to put out candles, unplug your Christmas tree and make sure portable heaters are only being used when you are around.
Another major issue throughout California is brush fires or California wildfires. Because of the state’s topography, California residents living in high brush areas or wild fire zones are especially aware of the risk if their homes are within close proximity to brush.
